PartyX sees tremendous potential to evolve our current governing system to better serve the people it represents. The internet has already proven effective in many areas; perhaps, the most important opportunity is still emerging. Our vision sees the emergence of a new form of democracy from developments in online collective decision making. We see a system that is fair, intelligent, transparent and efficient and involves every stakeholder in a decision-making process.

The Party X mission is to create social change by advocating citizen-engaged democracy using internet technology.

Over human history, the rise of new forms of government follows from the cultural integration of new ways of communicating, from the spoken language, to the written word, to the printing press, to radio, and television. The internet is a breakthrough communication and analysis technology, and its capacity to serve group decision making – among large numbers of people, around complex decisions – will be key to the next stage of democracy evolution.

Representative democracy is currently society’s best solution to the challenge of collective decision-making, but – as we all know – it suffers from shortcomings. This is not a surprise; invented in a time before radio, it disconnects all but a small group from meaningful decisions, limiting its capacity to effectively access the distributed intelligence of the whole community.

Moreover, democracy relies on a majority vote to identify decisions, systematically creating polarization and discord between those with power and those without.  However, these limitations were technological, not philosophical – and communications technology is now in a position to offer solutions. The possibilities offered by the internet to support participatory democratic decision making include not only greater social solidarity, but also more intelligent decisions and a better chance of addressing the serious challenges we collectively face.
